Researcher

Researcher is a built-in, first-party agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot that pairs a deep-research reasoning model with Copilot orchestration to run multi-step investigations across work data — emails, meetings, files, and chats — and the web, then returns a synthesized, source-cited report. As a first-party surface it is governed through Copilot licensing and access rather than deployed like a custom Copilot Studio agent. The exam contrast is with Analyst: Researcher does qualitative, multi-source synthesis and decision-ready summaries, while Analyst handles quantitative reasoning over structured data. Both appear under Tools in Copilot Chat.
